Description
Key attributes
Sri Lanka grows hundreds of traditional rice varieties, kept alive by small farmers alongside modern high-yield rice. A few have become sought-after abroad, especially among Sri Lankan families living overseas and in specialty and natural food shops.
Varieties we quote
- Kalu Heenati: a dark red rice with a firm, nutty grain
- Pachchaperumal: a red rice with a soft texture
- Madathawalu: a red rice grown in the dry zone
- Suwandel: a white, fragrant traditional rice, often used for festive dishes
Most heirloom rice is sold unpolished (as whole grain, with the bran left on), which keeps its colour. Lightly polished and parboiled rice can be quoted on request.
What to include in your request
- Variety and form (unpolished, polished, parboiled)
- Quantity, and bulk bags or retail packs
- Lab parameters your market needs (moisture, broken grains, microbiology, pesticide residues)
- Destination port
Supply. Heirloom varieties come from small growers and harvests vary by season, so we confirm available quantity with each quote. Sri Lanka exports a small share of its rice, mainly to markets with large Sri Lankan communities such as the UAE, Japan, Australia, the UK and France.
Packing and shipping
Orders are packed to your instruction and shipped by sea in a full or shared container, or by air for samples and small lots, quoted FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF to your port. Products from several Sri Lankan suppliers can share one container through our consolidation service.
How to get a price: tell us the quantity, your specification and your destination port. We quote FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF, with lead time and minimum order, and arrange samples before an order.
