Description

Sri Lankan cooking starts with freshly scraped coconut: for pol sambol, for mallum, for coconut milk and for sweets. Outside the coconut belt, a fresh mature coconut is hard to find and slow to scrape, so frozen grated coconut is a steady line in South Asian and Southeast Asian grocery freezers. Sri Lanka grows its own coconuts, and processors scrape, pack and freeze the kernel the same day.

Formats

  • IQF: free-flowing, so a cook can take out just the amount needed
  • Block: frozen in the pack, for catering and food manufacturers
  • Retail packs under your brand, or plain catering packs

Typical specification

Grated coconut is a high-fat, high-moisture food, so it is sold on fat, moisture and microbiology, with a short time between scraping and freezing. We send the lot results with each shipment and can test to your market’s limits through an accredited lab.

Who buys it

Asian grocery importers, frozen food distributors, restaurants and caterers, and food makers who use coconut in curries, sauces or desserts.

Private label

Every export shipment carries a certificate of origin. Ask the desk which other certificates your country requires.

Can I check quality before a bulk order?

Yes. Start with a sample or trial lot. We can also arrange a pre-shipment inspection or an independent lab test for any order.

How do I pay safely?

First and trial orders of about USD 2,000 to 20,000 can be paid through Escrow.com, which releases the money only after you accept the goods. Larger orders are paid by letter of credit.
