Standard Export Documents — What to Expect
Certificate of Origin
Issued by Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board (EDB). Confirms goods are manufactured in Sri Lanka — required for FTA tariff benefits and most import customs processes.
Bill of Lading / Air Waybill
The primary shipping document. Issued by the carrier and serves as evidence of shipment, title of goods, and contract of carriage.
HS Code Classification
The Harmonised System (HS) code determines the duty rate applied at destination customs. Correct classification is the single most important factor in minimising import costs.
Phytosanitary Certificate
Required for plant-based products (spices, tea, coconut). Issued by Sri Lanka’s Department of Agriculture / National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO).
Organic / Certification Documents
For organically-certified products, buyers typically require a Transaction Certificate (TC) from the certifying body alongside the product certificate. Our exporters provide these directly.
