Natural rubber and industrial products from EDB-registered Sri Lankan manufacturers

Sri Lanka’s Rubber Industry — A Diversified Industrial Base
Sri Lanka has cultivated rubber since 1876, and today the country’s rubber industry spans natural latex production, manufactured rubber products, and solid wood products derived from rubberwood. The Rubber Development Department oversees quality and certification, making Sri Lankan rubber among the most traceable and consistent in Asia.
The country’s rubber product manufacturing has grown significantly beyond raw rubber, with a strong base of factories producing surgical and industrial gloves, conveyor belts, gaskets, solid tires, rubber mats, and precision rubber components for automotive and industrial applications. Rubberwood — the solid hardwood timber harvested from rubber trees at the end of their productive life — has also become a significant export in furniture and flooring.

Documentation, testing, and regulatory requirements for rubber product importers
Required Documents
Certificate of Origin, RRISL grade certificate (for raw rubber), Test Certificate from accredited lab, Commercial Invoice, Packing List. Medical gloves require FDA 510(k) clearance number and CE declaration of conformity for EU.
Gloves Testing
For medical/examination gloves: ASTM D3578 (US), EN 455 (EU). For chemical-resistant gloves: EN 374. Request AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) test results — typically AQL 1.5 for medical. Pre-shipment inspection recommended for large orders.
