Cinnamon tea made only from Ceylon cinnamon bark is a caffeine-free infusion with a sweet, mild flavor. Sri Lanka is the main source of true cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), which buyers choose over cassia partly because it is naturally much lower in coumarin.

What goes in the cup

• Tea-cut bark: quillings and cut quills sieved to an even size for loose tea and tea bags
• Cinnamon only, or blended with Ceylon black tea, ginger or lemongrass
• Cinnamon sticks for brewing as a separate pack

Testing

Each lot can be tested for coumarin, moisture and microbiology before shipping, and organic cinnamon is available from certified growers. EU buyers should ask for the coumarin result, since the EU sets coumarin limits for foods containing cinnamon.

Who buys it

Tea and wellness brands, cafes and online sellers. Because it uses the cut grades rather than whole quills, cinnamon tea is a good use of the bark that is too short to sell as sticks.
