Description
Sri Lanka exports fresh vegetables to the Gulf, the Maldives and Europe, mainly for Sri Lankan and South Asian communities and for resorts. Fresh vegetables exported about US$20 million in 2025.
What is shipped
- Gourds: snake gourd, bitter gourd, bottle gourd, ash plantain
- Drumstick (moringa pods)
- Okra, long beans, brinjal (eggplant) and green chilli
- Curry leaves, gotu kola and other leafy greens
Mixed shipments
Buyers usually take a mixed weekly shipment of many vegetables, by air or in a shared reefer container with fruit and coconuts. Tell us the list, quantities and how often you need it. Resorts in the Maldives often order by air several times a week.
Import paperwork
Fresh produce needs a phytosanitary certificate from Sri Lanka’s National Plant Quarantine Service, and many countries set their own conditions for each fruit or vegetable, which can include treatment or a permit. Check your country’s rules before ordering; we supply the export documents.
What to tell us for a quote
- The product, grade or specification you need, and a reference sample if you have one
- Quantity per order and how often you buy
- Pack size, packaging and labelling
- Destination port and the Incoterm you prefer
- Documents your market requires, such as a certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate or lab test reports
Packing and shipping
Orders are packed to your instruction and shipped by sea in a full or shared container, or by air for samples and small lots, quoted FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF to your port. Products from several Sri Lankan suppliers can share one container through our consolidation service.
How to get a price: tell us the quantity, your specification and your destination port. We quote FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF, with lead time and minimum order, and arrange samples before an order.
Buying questions
Which trade terms do you quote?
FOB Colombo; CFR; CIF. Freight is quoted per shipment for your quantity and destination.
Which documents come with the shipment?
Every export shipment carries a certificate of origin. Ask the desk which other certificates your country requires.
Can I check quality before a bulk order?
Yes. Start with a sample or trial lot. We can also arrange a pre-shipment inspection or an independent lab test for any order.
How do I pay safely?
First and trial orders of about USD 2,000 to 20,000 can be paid through Escrow.com, which releases the money only after you accept the goods. Larger orders are paid by letter of credit.
