Description

Coconut oil is unusually rich in medium-chain fatty acids, above all lauric acid (C12). Splitting the oil and distilling it gives coconut fatty acids, the raw material behind soaps, surfactants such as SLS and cocamide, and many cosmetic esters. Sri Lanka refines a large share of its coconut oil at home and exports the fatty acids as a by-product line.

Grades

  • Distilled whole-cut coconut fatty acid: the full C6 to C18 mix, for toilet soap and surfactants
  • Coconut fatty acid distillate (CFAD): from physical refining, used in soap making and animal feed
  • Fractionated cuts: caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) for MCT and esters, and lauric (C12) for surfactants

Typical specification

Each grade is sold on acid value, saponification value, iodine value, color, moisture and its carbon-chain profile. We supply a certificate of analysis (COA) for each lot. Send your target specification and we match it with the quote.

Shipping

Fatty acids solidify in the cold, so they ship in drums, IBCs or heated flexitanks. Ask about melting point and the heating your receiving site needs. Safety data sheets (SDS) are supplied with every order.

Who buys it

Soap and detergent makers, surfactant and oleochemical producers, cosmetic ingredient distributors and feed millers (CFAD).
