About Sri Lankan desiccated coconut
Desiccated coconut is the white kernel of the mature coconut (Cocos nucifera), pared, shredded or grated, and dried to a low moisture content, typically about 3%. Sri Lanka is one of the main exporters, and most production comes from the coconut triangle of the Kurunegala, Puttalam and Gampaha districts.
It is commonly traded in grades by cut size, such as fine, medium, chips and flakes, and by fat content, with high-fat (about 65%) and reduced-fat types.
Common uses
- Confectionery, biscuits and bakery
- Chocolate and cereal bars
- Ice cream and dessert toppings
- Curries, sauces and home cooking
Storage and documents
Kept cool and dry in sealed, lined bags, it typically holds about 12 months. Buyers commonly ask for a certificate of analysis covering moisture, fat, free fatty acid and microbiology, a certificate of origin, and a phytosanitary or health certificate where required. Exact grade, packing, MOQ and price are confirmed on the quote.
What to include in a quote request
A clear request usually states the product form and cut, the pack size and packing (bulk or retail), any labeling or private label needs, the quantity per shipment and how often, the destination port and the Incoterm, for example FOB Colombo or CIF. Mentioning the food safety certification required by the destination market helps the supplier confirm fit.
