Import rules by country
Japan (JAS)Japan needs the organic JAS mark, applied by a JAS-certified importer or exporter. The JAS register does not list products, so confirm the JAS certificate covers yours.
EUAn EU organic certificate (Regulation 2018/848) from a recognised control body, plus a certificate of inspection (COI) in TRACES for each shipment.
USASelling as organic in the US needs USDA organic (NOP) certification, and each shipment needs an NOP Import Certificate in ACE issued by the exporter’s certifier.
CanadáUnder the US–Canada Organic Equivalency Arrangement, product certified to the USDA organic standard by a certifier accredited directly by USDA can be sold as organic in Canada, and the CFIA states the product does not have to originate in either country. Your Canadian importer needs its own Safe Food for Canadians licence.
MéxicoTo be sold as organic in Mexico, product must be certified under the Ley de Productos Orgánicos (LPO) by a body SENASICA approves. Control Union México is one, and Control Union certifies every company here. Companies marked Mexico LPO certified hold LPO on Control Union’s register today; the others hold USDA or EU organic with Control Union and would need to add LPO, which our Trade Desk can ask them to do. Mexico also sets plant health requirements (SENASICA) and labelling rules (NOM-051) for each product.
UKOrganic imports into Great Britain need a control body the UK recognises and a GB certificate of inspection (GB COI) for each shipment.
SuíçaSwitzerland accepts EU organic certification as equivalent; products sold under the Bio Suisse bud also need Bio Suisse approval, shown where the register lists it.
UAEThe UAE accepts the USDA organic certificate and logo for products labelled organic, and the product must be registered on the ZAD food system before sale. Confirm current rules with your UAE importer.
AustráliaAustralia does not require organic certification to sell food as organic, but the ACCC requires every organic claim to be provable, and a product labelled certified organic must really be certified. A current USDA or EU certificate is the evidence most Australian importers ask for; some retailers also want a local certifier such as ACO or NASAA. Imported food must also pass biosecurity checks and meet the Food Standards Code.
