Citronella oil is sold in two types, and the trade names them by origin. Ceylon type comes from Cymbopogon nardus, the grass grown in southern Sri Lanka around Matara and Hambantota. Java type comes from a different species, Cymbopogon winterianus. The two smell and test differently, so buyers whose formula calls for Ceylon citronella need oil from this grass.

What comes with each lot

Each lot is quoted with its gas chromatography (GC) report showing its main components. Specific gravity, refractive index, a safety data sheet and a certificate of analysis are available on request. We send samples before an order so you can test the oil in your own product.

Grades and packing

The oil is supplied as distilled. Tell us if you need it filtered or dried to a lower water content. It ships in aluminium bottles for samples and small lots, and in HDPE or steel drums for larger orders.

Claims in your market

Many countries regulate products that claim to repel insects, for example under EPA rules in the United States or the Biocidal Products Regulation in the EU. If your product makes such a claim, check your registration needs before ordering. You remain responsible for the claims and labelling of the product you sell.

Private label

Retail packs can carry your brand. Send us your artwork, pack size and labelling requirements for your market, and we confirm packing options, minimum order and lead time with the quote. You remain responsible for the label claims made in your market.

Packing and shipping

Orders are packed to your instruction and shipped by sea in a full or shared container, or by air for samples and small lots, quoted FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF to your port. Products from several Sri Lankan suppliers can share one container through our consolidation service.
