Description
Key attributes
Ranawara is Senna auriculata, a shrub that grows in Sri Lanka’s dry zone and carries bright yellow flowers through much of the year. The dried flowers are one of the best-known traditional herbal teas in Sri Lanka, brewed on their own or blended, and sold in local markets and in packaged “ranawara tea”.
A note on the name. Some sellers abroad list this plant simply as “senna”. It is not the senna leaf sold as a laxative (Senna alexandrina). We label it by its full botanical name and plant part, Senna auriculata flowers, so a buyer’s compliance team can check it.
Forms we quote
- Dried whole flowers, for loose tea and blending
- Cut flowers, for tea bags
What to include in your request
- Whole or cut, and the cut size for tea bags
- Moisture and foreign matter limits
- Lab parameters for the certificate (microbiology, heavy metals, pesticide residues)
- Packing, quantity per shipment and destination port
The flowers are collected and dried by small producers, so lots vary in colour and stem content. We send a sample before a full order, and every lot can be tested by an independent laboratory. We do not make health claims for this product; buyers who sell it as a food or tea are responsible for the rules in their market.
Packing and shipping
Lots are packed to your instruction, usually in food-grade inner liners inside woven polypropylene sacks or cartons, and labelled with the lot number that matches the laboratory certificate. Trial and sample lots ship by express courier; larger orders by air or sea freight, quoted FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF to your port. Products from several Sri Lankan suppliers can share one container through our consolidation service.
How to get a price: tell us the quantity, your specification and your destination port. We quote FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF, with lead time and minimum order, and arrange samples before an order. The range shown is indicative, from market evidence; your quote is confirmed against a supplier offer.
