About moringa leaf powder

Moringa leaf powder is made from the dried leaves of Moringa oleifera, a fast-growing tree known in Sri Lanka as murunga. The tree grows well in the island’s dry and intermediate zones, and its leaves and pods are part of everyday Sri Lankan cooking.

Leaves are washed, dried at low temperature to keep their green color, and milled. The powder is commonly traded by mesh size, moisture and color.

Common uses

  • Smoothies, juices and drink mixes
  • Capsules and tablets
  • Baking, soups and sauces
  • Tea blends

Storage and documents

Green color fades with heat, light and air, so the powder is best stored sealed, cool and dark, where it typically keeps 12 to 24 months. Buyers usually ask for a certificate of analysis covering moisture, microbiology, heavy metals and pesticide residues, a phytosanitary certificate and a certificate of origin. Exact specification, packing, MOQ and price are confirmed on the quote.

What to include in a quote request

A clear request usually states the form (whole, cut or ground), the grade or specification bought to, such as moisture, volatile oil, density or size limits, the quantity per shipment and how often, the packing (bulk bags, cartons or retail packs), the destination port and the Incoterm, for example FOB Colombo or CIF. Mentioning the food safety standard or residue limits of the destination market helps the supplier confirm the right lot.
