What Sri Lanka supplies

Coco peat is the pith left when coconut husk is processed for fibre. Sri Lankan mills wash it to bring down its salt content (EC), buffer it for growers who need a stable substrate, and compress it into blocks, discs and ready-to-use grow bags. It is used in greenhouses, hydroponics, nurseries and potting mixes.

Sri Lanka also grows cut foliage for florists, such as cordyline, dracaena and ferns, and unrooted cuttings for commercial nurseries.

What to put in your request

  • Coco peat: EC limit, washed or buffered, block or grow bag size, fibre and chip mix, and moisture
  • Foliage and cuttings: species and varieties, stem length or cutting size, and weekly quantity

Plant material needs paperwork

Every shipment of plant material, and most coco peat, needs a phytosanitary certificate from Sri Lanka’s plant quarantine service. Check your country’s plant health rules before you order. We do not list orchids or other species controlled under CITES.

Before you buy

EC and moisture

Salt content decides whether coco peat is safe for your crop. Ask for the EC, pH and moisture of the actual lot, and a laboratory test before the first order.

Plant health

A phytosanitary certificate goes with each shipment. Some countries also require a treatment or an import permit for growing media, so confirm with your importer.

Packing and transit

Compressed blocks are palletised and shipped by sea. Foliage and cuttings travel by air in cartons, so we confirm flights with the quote.
