Coconut husk cut into chips, washed to low electrical conductivity and dried. Growers use them for orchids and anthuriums, as a coarse component in potting mixes, and in hydroponic systems where they hold air better than fine coco peat. For fine coir pith, see our coco peat listing.

What to include in your request

Chips, peat and fiber

Coir comes in three main fractions. Chips are the coarse, blocky pieces. Peat, or pith, is the fine dust. Fiber is the long strand. Chips drain fast and leave large air pockets, so they suit epiphytes and plants that rot in wet media. Growers often blend chips with peat to set the air to water balance they want.

Why EC and buffering matter

Raw husk holds salts, mainly sodium and potassium. Washing lowers the EC. Buffering, usually with a calcium solution, exchanges the remaining sodium and potassium so the media does not lock up calcium and magnesium in the crop. Buyers growing sensitive crops usually ask for buffered chips.

Quality and documents

Tell us the EC, pH and moisture figures you need. Each lot can be tested by an independent laboratory before shipment. Export documents, including any plant health papers your country requires, are arranged with the shipment.
