For Sri Lankan food exporters

FDA registration and a US Agent for your factory

If your factory sends food, spices, tea, coconut products or supplements to the United States, it must be registered with the US FDA and must name a US Agent. We are your US Agent, and we help you register or renew.

US$299 a year per facility · Help in English, සිංහල and தமிழ் · Our US desk is in Texas

Renewal is due now 1 October to 31 December 2026

FDA registrations must be renewed in this window. A registration that is not renewed by 31 December expires, and shipments from that facility can be held at the US border.

How it works

We check every facility before we accept it, and nothing is charged until you are accepted.

1

Apply

Fill in the short form below. It takes about five minutes.

2

Quick check

We review your facility before we accept it. We may decline.

3

Agreement and payment

You sign our US Agent agreement and pay US$299 by card or bank transfer.

4

We confirm with the FDA

We help you register or renew and confirm as your US Agent. We stay your contact for 12 months and remind you before the next renewal.

Who needs this

You need FDA food facility registration if your facility makes, processes, packs or stores food that is sent to the United States. This includes spices, tea, coconut products, snacks, sauces and dietary supplements.

  • Farms do not register.
  • If another factory outside the US processes or packs your product before it is exported, that last factory registers. Simple labeling does not count as processing.
  • Every facility outside the US must name a US Agent: a person or company that lives or has a place of business in the United States and is physically there. A mailbox or answering service is not allowed.

What you get for US$299 a year

Per facility, for 12 months. The FDA itself charges nothing to register.

  • US Agent for 12 months, provided by BrandShyp LLC in Texas.
  • Help to register or renew your facility in the FDA system, step by step.
  • Help to get your free DUNS number. The FDA requires one, and it can take up to 30 days, so start early.
  • Every FDA message passed to you within one US business day, explained in English, Sinhala or Tamil.
  • Renewal reminders, so your registration never lapses.
  • US buyer requests: as a seller on SriLankaExport.com, you can receive relevant requests from US buyers.

Two desks, close to round-the-clock. Our US desk in Texas answers the FDA during US hours, and our Sri Lanka desk follows up with you during your working day.

What a US Agent does

The US Agent is the FDA’s contact for your facility, for routine questions and emergencies. The FDA treats anything it tells your US Agent as told to you, so your agent must be reachable and must pass messages on quickly.

What is not included

So you know exactly what you are paying for.

  • FDA approval or certification. The FDA does not approve or certify food facilities. Registration is not approval, and nobody can sell you “FDA approval”.
  • Acting as the US importer (the FSVP importer, who checks your food safety for the FDA). Your US buyer or their importer does this.
  • Label approval. We can point out common label problems, but we do not approve labels.
  • FDA fees. The FDA charges nothing to register. If the FDA ever bills the US Agent for your facility, for example for a reinspection after a failed inspection, you pay that cost (see the agreement).
  • Lab tests and certificates. We can arrange and quote these separately.

Is there such a thing as FDA approval for food?

No. Many people search for “FDA approval” or an “FDA certificate” for food, but the FDA does not approve or certify food facilities or most foods. What the FDA requires is registration of your facility, a US Agent, and prior notice before each shipment arrives. A registration number is not an approval, and putting “FDA approved” on a label or website can mislead buyers. If someone offers to sell you “FDA approval”, be careful.

Getting your free DUNS number in Sri Lanka

The FDA requires a DUNS number (a unique business number from Dun & Bradstreet) for every facility it registers. It is free. You can pay for faster service, but you do not have to. It can take up to 30 days, so start early, especially before the 31 December renewal deadline. We help you apply as part of our service.

Apply for our US Agent service

About five minutes. We review every facility before we accept it, and nothing is charged until you are accepted.

Used only to reach you about this request. Paste a full international number if you prefer and the code box is ignored.

Free to apply. Applying does not make us your US Agent: we confirm only after our check, a signed agreement and payment. The FDA does not approve or certify food facilities, and we never claim it does. Your details are never shown publicly.

Vragen

Is FDA registration free?

Yes. The FDA charges no fee to register or renew. You pay only for the US Agent and our help.

We already have a US Agent. Can we switch?

Yes, at any time. Your registration is updated with the new agent. Tell us why you are switching on the form.

Our registration expired. What now?

You register again as a new facility. We can help you do that and name us as your agent.

Does registration let us use “FDA approved” on our label or website?

No. The FDA does not approve facilities, and saying “FDA approved” can mislead buyers and cause problems.

Do we also need prior notice for each shipment?

Yes. Every food shipment to the US needs prior notice before it arrives. It is usually filed by the importer or customs broker, and it can be filed free on the FDA website. Ask us if you need help.

Can we claim this cost back?

Exporters registered with the EDB’s New Exporter Development Programme may be able to claim certification and consultancy costs under EDB support schemes. Please check with the EDB.

How do we pay you?

In US dollars, by card or bank transfer. Bank charges are paid by the sender.
