Sri Lanka grows cloves in its mid-country spice gardens, around Kandy and Matale, and distils oil from both the leaves and the dried buds. Clove oil is valued for eugenol, its main aromatic compound, and buyers compare lots by their eugenol content as shown on a gas chromatography (GC) report.

Two oils, two prices

• Clove leaf oil is distilled from fallen and pruned leaves. It is the main volume grade, used where eugenol is the target, for example in fragrance, oral-care and industrial applications.
• Clove bud oil is distilled from the dried flower buds. It has a rounder, sweeter aroma, is produced in smaller volumes and costs more. Flavour and fine fragrance buyers usually ask for it.

What comes with each lot

Every lot is quoted with its GC report. Specific gravity, refractive index and optical rotation can be added on request, along with a safety data sheet and a certificate of analysis. Samples are sent before an order so your lab can check the oil against your specification.

Using clove oil in your market

Rules for food flavourings, cosmetics and other products differ by country. You remain responsible for the claims and labelling of the finished product you sell.

Private label

Retail packs can carry your brand. Send us your artwork, pack size and labelling requirements for your market, and we confirm packing options, minimum order and lead time with the quote. You remain responsible for the label claims made in your market.

Packing and shipping

Orders are packed to your instruction and shipped by sea in a full or shared container, or by air for samples and small lots, quoted FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF to your port. Products from several Sri Lankan suppliers can share one container through our consolidation service.
