Add the box size: couriers bill on size when a box is light for its volume. Choose a destination and enter the parcel weight. These are each carrier’s published list rates, not quotes. Courier rates exclude the fuel surcharge, which DHL resets weekly and UPS monthly (DHL’s published Sri Lanka figure was 43.75% for the week of 14 September 2026), plus any remote area, duty or other surcharges. Businesses with their own courier account usually pay less than list. Confirm the price with the carrier before you ship. Why box size matters DHL and UPS bill the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight: length x width x height in centimeters, divided by 5,000, rounded up to the next half kilogram. A 30 x 25 x 20 cm box is 3 kg of volumetric weight whatever is inside it, so 1 kg of cinnamon quills or loose-leaf tea in that box is billed as 3 kg. The same sample in a 20 x 15 x 10 cm box is billed on its actual 1 kg. Sri Lanka Post’s published tariff prices parcels by weight and publishes no volumetric rule.
