Traditional Sri Lankan clay pots, wheel-thrown and kiln-fired, for slow cooking and serving.

Clay pots (meti hatti in Sinhala) are still how many Sri Lankan homes cook curries, rice and milk rice. Potters in the clay belts along Sri Lanka’s rivers throw the pots on a wheel, dry them in the shade and fire them in wood kilns. The porous red clay holds heat evenly, which suits slow simmering, and the pots go straight from the stove to the table.

#### What we supply

- Curry pots with lids, in several sizes
- Rice and milk rice pots
- Shallow curry bowls and serving dishes
- Mixed-size sets for retail, or single sizes for restaurants

#### Finishes

Unglazed pots are the traditional choice and are seasoned before first use. Glazed pots are easier to clean. Where a glaze is used it must be lead free, and we can arrange a lead and cadmium leach test on each lot.

#### Food-contact rules

Ceramic cookware sold in the US must meet FDA limits for leachable lead and cadmium, and California also requires Proposition 65 compliance. The EU sets limits under Directive 84/500/EEC. Tell us your market and we test to its method before shipping. These pots are for cooking and serving; we make no health claims for them.

#### Who buys it

Kitchenware importers, Asian and specialty grocery stores, restaurants serving Sri Lankan and South Indian food, and online sellers of natural cookware. Each pot is handmade, so small differences in color and shape are normal.

#### What to tell us for a quote

- The product, grade or specification you need, and a reference sample if you have one
- Quantity per order and how often you buy
- Pack size, packaging and labelling
- Destination port and the Incoterm you prefer
- Documents your market requires, such as a certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate or lab test reports

#### Packing and shipping

Orders are packed to your instruction and shipped by sea in a full or shared container, or by air for samples and small lots, quoted FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF to your port. Products from several Sri Lankan suppliers can share one container through our consolidation service.

How to get a price: tell us the quantity, your specification and your destination port. We quote FOB Colombo, CFR or CIF, with lead time and minimum order, and arrange samples before an order.
