Description
Key attributes
Kithul treacle is the sap of the kithul palm (Caryota urens), tapped from the flower stalk and boiled down to a dark syrup. Kithul jaggery is the same sap cooked further and set into blocks. Both are staples of Sri Lankan desserts and are sold abroad to Sri Lankan and South Asian grocers and to buyers looking for an unrefined palm sweetener.
Ask for pure kithul. Some treacle sold as kithul is blended with cane sugar. We ask the maker for an ingredient declaration, and a laboratory test can confirm it before shipment.
