Orange Pekoe (OP) and Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) are the workhorse grades of the Ceylon tea trade, used by the world’s leading blenders to create household brands. Sri Lanka’s diverse growing regions — Uva, Dimbula, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy — each produce distinctly different flavor profiles within these grades.
Grade Options
- OP (Orange Pekoe): Long, wiry leaf. Clean bright cup. Best for premium loose-leaf retail.
- BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe): Smaller broken leaf. Stronger, faster infusion. Ideal for teabags.
- BOPF (Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings): Fine grade for teabag manufacture.
- Dust: Finest grade for instant tea and blending.
