Ethylene oxide is not allowed as a fumigant on food in the EU, and EU limits are set on the sum of ethylene oxide and 2-chloroethanol. Spice and seed shipments have been recalled over it since 2020, so EU buyers often ask for this result separately from a standard pesticide screen.
