Fine-mesh coconut shell activated carbon for companies that make granular cartridges and pressed carbon blocks for drinking water filters.

Fine-mesh coconut shell activated carbon made in Sri Lanka for filter manufacturers. Point-of-use filters (under-sink, countertop, refrigerator and pitcher filters) use finer carbon than municipal treatment plants: loose-fill cartridges use grades such as 20x50 and 30x60, and pressed carbon blocks use powder-range grades such as 80x325 bonded with a binder.

#### Why coconut shell

Coconut shell carbon is mostly micropores, which suit the small molecules filters target, such as chlorine and many taste and odour compounds. It is hard and low in dust, which matters when it is packed into a cartridge, and the feedstock is renewable. Sri Lanka is one of the main producers.

#### Specifying it

- Mesh range, with the allowed oversize and undersize
- Iodine number and any other activity tests you use
- Ash and moisture limits, and whether you need acid-washed, low-ash carbon
- Apparent density, which sets how much carbon fills a cartridge

#### Certification

Filters sold for drinking water are usually certified as a finished product, for example under NSF/ANSI 42, 53 or 58 in North America. That certification belongs to the filter maker. Some carbon makers also hold NSF/ANSI 61 listings for their media; if you need it, tell us and we confirm with the quote whether the exact grade holds a current listing. We do not claim contaminant removal for this product.
