Pale crepe and sole crepe: light, clean natural rubber that Sri Lanka is one of the few makers of.

Crepe rubber is natural rubber processed into thin, crinkled sheets. Pale crepe is the lightest-coloured and purest grade of natural rubber, made from selected latex. Sri Lanka is one of the main producers of pale crepe, and exported about US$25 million of crepe rubber in 2025.

#### Grades and uses

- Pale crepe: used where colour and purity matter, such as adhesives, medical and food-contact items
- Sole crepe: thick crepe sheets used as shoe soles, the classic crepe sole of desert boots and casual shoes

#### Specification

Crepe is graded by colour, dirt content, ash and volatile matter. Tell us the grade and the tests your plant requires, and we confirm the specification on the sample.

#### Who buys it

Footwear makers, adhesive manufacturers and rubber goods producers.

#### How crepe is made

Latex is collected from rubber trees, coagulated, then passed repeatedly between grooved rollers under running water, which washes it and gives crepe its crinkled texture. The sheets are air-dried, then packed in bales.
