Woven coir mesh and stitched coir blankets for slope, channel and streambank erosion control, in standard 400, 700 and 900 g/m2 weights.

Coir erosion control blankets and woven coir mesh, made in Sri Lanka from brown coconut husk fibre. Contractors lay them over bare slopes, channel banks and shorelines to hold soil and seed in place until vegetation establishes. Coir is the longest-lasting natural fibre used for this, typically breaking down over several years, so it suits steeper slopes and flowing water where straw or jute wears out too soon.

#### Two constructions

- Woven coir mesh (coir netting): an open grid woven from coir yarn. Sold by weight per square metre, most often 400, 700 or 900 g/m2. Heavier mesh has a smaller open area and is used on steeper slopes and in channels.
- Stitched coir blanket: loose coir fibre held between netting, with coir netting for a fully natural product or polypropylene netting where a client allows it.

#### Matching a project specification

Road and water projects usually specify the product by mass per area, tensile strength, open area and expected service life, often with reference to a state or national approved-products list. Send us the specification sheet or the line from the bid documents and we confirm which product matches, and which test results come with each lot. Listing on an approved-products list is held by the distributor or brand that registers the product, not by the mill.

#### Who buys it

Erosion control distributors, landscape and civil contractors, and restoration firms working on riverbanks, wetlands, road cuttings and mine rehabilitation. Our [coir logs](/product/coir-logs-for-erosion-control-coconut-fibre-rolls-coir-or-polypropylene-netting-sri-lanka/) are often ordered in the same container.

#### Import paperwork

Coir is a plant product, so many importing countries ask for a phytosanitary certificate, and some set their own conditions for coir. We supply the export documents. See our guide to [sourcing coir erosion control products](/coir-erosion-control-sourcing-guide/).
